Visit the 1883 Dillon Schoolhouse

Built in 1883, this frame school house, with original belfry and bell, was built by the town for the children of Dillon’s first families. Today, the school room looks as it might have in 1892. Artifacts include McGuffy desks, Heath readers with hand-crocheted bookmarks, slates and chalk, individual learning stations, and an 1885 piano.

NOTE:  Our 1883 Schoolhouse Museum will be closed through December 31st, 2022.  Please check back for 2023 hours or call to  schedule a tour.

They came for the gold, but stayed for the land.

Explore The Homesteads
We select a theme each year to focus our research, information, and programs on the people, places, and events of our past. Our 2022 theme was Homesteads: They came for the gold, but stayed for the land. The first generation homesteaders changed the demographics from lines and miners to ranches and families.

The mapping project focused on the first generation – the homesteaders who started the land development in Summit County, Colorado.
