Taking drives to old mining ghost towns around Colorado in the early 1970’s, she found the history and spirit of those that came before everlasting in her heart.

She married Steve Watson, and they moved to Houston, Texas and then to Dallas. While raising two children (Jimmy and Tracy) they became active in the Dallas community. Sandy was involved with Les Femme du Monde, Dallas Summer Musicals , Jesuit High School galas, president of Northwood Club ladies golf association, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church youth trips, musicals, Living Creche, Yule Feast as well as Deacon. Her recent volunteer position is participating on the “Friends” Committee of the Dallas Arboretum.

As second home owners, Sandy has volunteered through Summit Foundation. As an artist, she is represented in the Blue River Fine Art Gallery which shows work in local restaurants. Her love of history and sharing her time in the preservation of the local history inspires her. The Summit Historical Society (SHS) was incorporated on October 25, 1966. It operates as a private, nonprofit, member-based, tax-exempt State of Colorado 501(c) (3) corporation. As such, contributions are tax-deductible because of section 170 IRS Code.

The Society’s vision is exploring the past to better understand the present and positively influence the future. We make our projects highly visible for direct public benefit. As a result, the Society provides a showcase for the protection and improvement of historical sits and artifacts that tell the stories of Summit County, Colorado’s people, places, and things. Many of these activities are rare educational and recreational opportunities.
