Historic Hike: Peru Creek Tour with Interpretive Walks at the Chihuahua Ghost Town and Pennsylvania Mine

Do you like ghost towns?  Step back in time to the silver mining days on Peru Creek.  Join Historical Society’s Ken Torrington on a drive up Peru Creek Road as he shares stories about life in the 1800s, the lost silver towns of Chihuahua and Argentine, and the history of the Pennsylvania Mine. After the tour, you are invited to enjoy your picnic lunch from a picturesque viewpoint near one of the Pennsylvania Mine adits.

  • Date: Monday, July 14, 2025
  • Time:  8:45 AM, 1/2 day driving/walking tour (ends roughly at 12:00 PM)
  • Tickets: $25 for SHS & Blue River Watershed Group Members | $35 for non-members
  • Location: Peru Creek trailhead.  Driving directions: head east on HWY 6 towards Keystone, turning right onto Montezuma Road (County Road 5) and following it for about 4.6 miles. 
  • Limited to 20 Guests
  • Reserve by July 12, 6:00 PM

Extra Details: Wear comfortable shoes and bring layered clothing. Bring your own water, lunch, and camp chair.  Off-road vehicle recommended; however, rides in 4-Wheel Drive vehicles are available. The road is poorly maintained with many large potholes and rocks. Restroom facilities not available.
