SUMMARY:Recognition of Historic Rice Family Barn to the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties
DESCRIPTION:Join our celebration of this esteemed recognition. \nBenjamin Rice and his three sons built this two-story barn between 1918 and 1920. Set on rock and masonry foundation\, the log structure originally sat two feet above ground. The sturdy lower floor supported 20 draft horses\, feed\, wagons\, and supplies. The upper level stored 40 tons of hay for Rice’s workhorses and those used on freight wagons and stagecoaches. As a key stop on the Dillon-Kremmling stage line\, the barn’s wide sliding doors allowed teams to enter for repairs\, with fresh horses replacing those worn from the journey. \nThe Colorado State Register of Historic Properties is a listing of the state’s significant cultural resources worthy of preservation for the future education and enjoyment of Colorado’s residents and visitors. Properties listed in the Colorado State Register include individual buildings\, structures\, objects\, districts\, and historic and archaeological sites. The Register program is administered by the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation within History Colorado. History Colorado maintains an official list of all properties included in the Colorado State Register.  To be considered\, certain criteria must be met to establish the property’s historical significance and eligibility for inclusion. The designation promotes a sense of community history and local pride. Additionally\, these structures are now eligible to compete for grants from Colorado’s State Historical Fund. \nFree event!  View the Rice Barn. Open to all.  Registration is not required. \n\nDate: Sunday\, July 27\, 2025\nTime: 3:30 PM\nLocation:  Rice Family Barn\, 367 Cove Blvd\, Dillon \nCost: Admission is free\, but a $5 suggested donation to the Society at the event will help support historical educational programs\nRegistration is required by July 25\, 6:00 PM for attendance tracking purposes. SUMMARY:Recognition Of Old Dillon Schoolhouse to the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties
DESCRIPTION:Join our celebration with special guests\, Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives\, Julie McCluskie and Colorado State Senator\, Dylan Roberts. After a nomination is completed\, it is reviewed by the Colorado State Register Review Board\, composed of citizen members and professionals from the disciplines of prehistoric and historic archaeology\, history\, architecture\, and architectural history.  \nThis designation is a formal recognition of a property’s importance to the history of the community and the state of Colorado. The designation promotes a sense of community history and local pride. Additionally\, these structures are now eligible to compete for grants from Colorado’s State Historical Fund. \nFree event!  View the Old Dillon Schoolhouse. Open to all.  Registration is not required. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n	Related
