Community Programs
Education is a key part of the mission of Summit Historical Society. We strive to pass our knowledge of history onto the public in a fun and innovative way to students of all ages. Learn about the Lost Towns of Summit County, Ute History, Miners, and more!
School Programs
Students really enjoy our hands-on, interactive workshops to learn more about the different people groups who have lived in Colorado or to understand what it was like to live in Summit County a hundred (or more) years ago! We can come visit your school or schedule a program at one of our historical sites.

Visit the 1883 Dillon Schoolhouse
Built in 1883, this frame school house, with original belfry and bell, was built by the town for the children of Dillon’s first families. Today, the school room looks as it might have in 1892. Artifacts include McGuffy desks, Heath readers with hand-crocheted bookmarks, slates and chalk, individual learning stations, and an 1885 piano.
NOTE: Our 1883 Schoolhouse Museum will be closed through December 31st, 2022. Please check back for 2023 hours or call to schedule a tour.
They came for the gold, but stayed for the land.
